Refugees rescued off Indonesian coast

On early hours of Wednesday, 2am to be precise, hundreds of refugees were rescued by local fishermen in the Strait of Malacca off Indonesia Aceh’s Province. It was gathered that this happened after their boat had been turned away by Thai and Malaysian authorities.

This reported rescue happened before the governments of both Malaysia and Indonesia made a statement that they will continue to.provide humanitarian services to 7,000 migrants at sea.

“Those rescued were taken to Simpang Tiga village, East Aceh province” a rescue official claimed.

The refugees claimed they have been turned away by Malaysian authorities thrice and Indonisian’s twice.

Also gathered is that about 1,500 muslim Rohingya Myanmar fleeing persecution and Bangladeshis escaping poverty have arrived in Aceh province in recent days according to Aljazeera news.
