ISIL captures city of Palmyra,Syria

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has taken control of Syria’s ancient city of Palmyra on Wednesday.

ISIL started attack in the area last week engaging with the Syrian troops leaving hundreds dead and massive damages. After series of engagements, the Syrian army has collapsed and the terrorist group has taken control of the city.

Families are being forced to leave their homes due to the retreat of Syrian army and ISIL has occupied almost every parts of the city.

Palmyra dates back to the 1st and 2nd century and located in central Homs province, it lies 210km northeast of Damascus in desert that stretches to the Iraqi frontier to the east. The city has been listed as a World Heritage site because of its architecture, and is also known as The Pearl of the Desert.
